Australia-Philippines FIBA Verdict

Oh boy, the father just handed its verdict. The drama and violence has now taken a back seat as the FIBA officials from Switzerland handed down the result of their own investigation. Violence has no place nor included in the game of basketball contrasting the way it is being played, a lot contacts and denials. Height against heft, speed versus wall of wide bodied players. A lot has been been change and most have made change into their programs and representations from acquisition of foreign born players to beefed up the rosters and widened the chance to make it in the elusive Olympic dream. Then the introduction of what they call “Home and Away” where the games are played into one team’s home-court and the other to the opponents court and of course to make it economically viable FIBA made some major changes in terms of bracketing that pitches those teams against other opponents they’ve never used to play before. And the results was overwhelming.

Many are shocked with the outcome and heavy penalties imposed upon those the FIBA body thinks have made it worst. Will those stiff fines guarantees that such fracas will not happen again in the future with other teams?

I suggest FIBA officials go back to the drawing board and map-out again where and what in particular that needs attention to detail in terms of handling a cross-country competition. Is it still effective bringing in referees from other countries where basketball is not that popular or in the infancy period? Did the site inspection of the proposed venues really meet the prescribed standards with respect to security, safety of the players and its committee? Finally, does the home and away thing really bring in the planned higher competition level or will just boost the ego’s of those team that still trapped under the sheets of racial discrimination. While every country wanted to promote camaraderie and boundless love for the sports, it’s undeniable that racism still exists in the halls of sports venues, and even in workplaces. It’s high time that a psychological exams be given in every participating members of FIBA sanctioned tournament.
