FIBA WC 2023 – PHI-JAP-IND

“The Power of Three” and “Play It Louder Than Ever.”

The end of the year just painted the widest smile in every hoops fans in these three countries as  FIBA Central Board officially announced and formally endorsed it to the world. Excitement envelope our heart as we try to imagine things come 2023 ! that’s six full years and we collectively look at the line up of potential candidate to don the national colors from the ranks of junior to senior high varsity teams and the remaining strength of those young guns in the current team.

The announcement just fuel up the programs for basketball leagues, to find great talent, to train harder with a great length of time for preparation and gone is the reason of short training, jiving up, cohesion and whatever you may want to call it.

Were hoping that there’ll be no game of politics along the way but pure solid support for the team, the lack of long term program thinking must shelve and create a committee of professionals to attend to the rigors of preparation, programs, training’s, player selection, and others.

So who are your team for the coming 2023 FIBA World Cup ? Bear in mind that they should be able to withstand a long term commitment, sacrifices and dedication with one full goal and that is to win the coveted gold and eventually see our flag in the Olympics.

Name your team and lets start a very good conversation till the national team evolves into one of the most best formed team in the history of Philippines Basketball Team.

My first take is to have KAI SOTTO start training exclusively in the US under the trainer of Giannis Antetokounmpo ! – Paquito

img_1810

The score is tied at 99 all with a 3.23 seconds to go on the shot clock and fans are all on their feet in the 75,000+ capacity filled to to the rafters Philippine Arena and the while the world watch the most important last shot of a young, NBA aspiring local superstar Kobe Paras one of the two sons of the only PBA Rookie + MVP tower of power Benjie Paras take a pass from the PBA scoring champion Terrence Bill Romeo who fakes and drive for an alley hoop to Kobe Paras who soars high above rim enough to kiss it or drink coffee for an elevation remarkably high for an NBA standard and strongly dunk to finish the longest 3.23 seconds of the game that’ll always be debated as one of the finest finishes of the Philippines National Team in the FIBA tournament.

This is how it is envisioned by a kid from the million roads of the urban and rural areas of the country’s makeshift basketball courts when I asked him what he thinks about FIBA Basketball.  The Philippines is the basketball Mecca of Asia ! It’s undeniable, the most popular of all sports discipline that have change the many life’s of every kids who started it to every university, colleges varsity team, even to its far flung rural areas of the three big islands of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The photos above is enough to gauge how the game is being loved and passionately played in every place of the country even during the times of hardship. When Typhoon Haiyan devastated the middle portion of the country the first thing that Filipinos did aside from recouping their lives was to play basketball for they believe that life must go on no matter what and how it looks like to do it even submerged in waist deep flood waters the itch to touch the ball and continue to dream big have never faded.

The Philippines is a home to millions and millions of basketball fans from all walks of life, the competent heart and a dedicated warrior is traceable from the toddlers as young as 3 years old to the senior citizens of BASKETBALL Clubs of the elites and corporate world. It is the most watched sports program ever in the country and hosting the FIBA WORLD CUP 2023 together with the other Asian countries of Japan and Indonesia will bring the sports to a new level of diversity, hospitality and tourism. img_1812

Drive By Dunk Challenge

Here’s one of the craziest fads on the planet now! Do you find it entertaining or whatever you may wanna call it but for those whose rims, basketball goal’s that were broken just bring the tapes to them and let them pay for the repair and challenge them 1 on 1 for the love of the game.

Basketball Greatness

Have you heard of the drive by dunk challenge? You probably have, it’s kinda a big deal right now. If you aren’t aware of what it is, let me summarize it for you. The drive by dunk challenge is basically in the title. You drive around until you find somebody’s basketball hoop you can dunk on, and then you dunk it and then drive off. It seems pretty stupid right? Well, it is, but it’s also very entertaining. Especially when people fail and the whole thing is caught on tape.

Here is a clip of some drive by dunks gone wrong…

If you ever walk outside and see that your basketball hoop is shattered, or hanging by a thread, then look no further than a failed drive by dunk! Hope you enjoyed!

How a Sacrifice won a Championship

The Philippine Basketball Association’s Philippine Cup was won by the powerhouse San Miguel Beermen with 4-1 of the best of seven series. What was significant for this series are three things. The perpetual trophy, the runner up’s huge following with their never say die spirit and the back to back finals MVP, SMB point guard Chris Ross.

After receiving his MVP award from Cignal HD representatives, he was asked for some words for the PBA fans especially those rooting for San Miguel Beermen. He goes on to say that it was through great sacrifices of each fifteen members of the team that made it possible…to achieved two things… one in winning the championship trophy and next is why he won the MVP in a back to back fashion. And that everybody made the needed adjustment for him to be in a position to contribute more in scoring, share the ball more often and run the floor in a seamless offensive manner that made the team’s dynamism as a force to reckon with  and maximize their unique potentials both inside the paint and beyond the arc positions in beating the crowd favorite Ginebra San Miguel.

A team built around sacrifices has a greater chance of winning a championship.  – Paquito

Meralco Bolts vs Barangay Ginebra, The PBA Governor’s Cup Finals It’s NSD team in Game 7

Hello my dear reader’s and all of you who are fans of the PBA, the most followed sports finale in the Philippines has come to it’s awaited stage of games the Governor’s Cup best of seven game series featuring two totally different teams that were both come out battle scarred by repulsing the powerhouses defending champion San Miguel Beermen and the Tropang Texters both are MVP and SMC group teams respectively that has deep history of winning championships.

Two great american coaches will try to outmatch each teams defense and offense but the sixth man’s presence will play a greater role inside the venue who happens to be the thousand of strong fans rooting for the “masses team” Barangay Ginebra which has gained its popularity during the time of one of the 25 Greatest PBA Hall of Fame awardee the former senator Robert “Big J” Jaworski.  Mr 100% multi-awarded former Best Import head coach Norman Black have made his way to the championship with a core of young players. Meralco Bolts leader or a force to offer on the court is none other than Jimmy Alapag and their import Allen Durham 30 points 15 rebounds per game averages. The championship series will see the former Gilas members and the exciting ball rotation that Barangay Ginebra masterfully played against the San Miguel Beermen.

It’s a tossed between who will sustain the run and gun scheme and the most defensive tenacity centered team,  obviously have the advantage in every possession and execution of plays where we are all eager to see how the rookie Scottie Thompson will go against Chris Newsome, Sol Mercado and LA Ternorio pitted with the Mighty Mouse Jimmy Alapag. The Meralco Bolts has the import advantage while GSM has the ceiling at the center position. And with this cards on the table it is pretty obvious that the team that can distribute the ball consistently will surely establish the mastery of the seven game dates with the Never Say Die team emerging victorious in the final sound of the buzzer of the seventh game. Enjoy the game.

Why Do We Love the PBA

This is the game we all admire in the country! Everyone plays basketball, from streets, gyms and even in top clubs. Nobody get to retire to play the game at his own will. Seeing the game live is far different from watching it on television and that we also wanted to see in between timeouts and feel the energy and intense game inside the venue. said Raven who plays small forward in their school STI College – Sta Maria Bulacan School. And seeing the 8 Division World Champion boxing icon Manny Pacquiao serves as a bonus in our experience. Meanwhile Rain or Shine leads Mahindra Enforcers by 4 at 48-44 with 10:34 to in the 3rd quarter in the featured game of Wednesday’s twin biller where Phoenix Fuelmasters beats Purefoods Star Hotshots 106-93.

While the Pambansang Kamao entered the game late in the 3rd quarter getting the loudest cheers from the fans till the half of the last quarter after a hustle and some floor drop defensive stop underneath the basket. This is the PBA.

USA Dream Team FORMALIZED GOLD at Rio 2016 Olympics Men’s Basketball game, Demolished Serbia Team Final Score 96-66

The team USA entered the game focused, skilled and smarter with the planned strategies. Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s game plan made the Serbian team paid for it, applying the trojan horse technique effectively masking early in the First quarter lead of Serbia by sending their bigs in foul trouble paving the way inside the paint a bit wide easier for the USA team offensive attack.  Serbia stayed in the game till the early Second quarter until the US started launching points after points and slowly put away the Serbians on their way to its 25th olympic basketball game consecutive win.

As advertised prior to the opening of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Kevin Durant showcased what he got by scoring a total of 30 points on a 10/19 field goals and 5/11 at three point line in a little over 30 minutes of playing time contributing a point in every minute and showed why he was the highest paid athlete in the 2016 Rio Olympics beating Serbia with a final score of 96 – 66 as traditionally done ever since the pros were allowed to compete in the most important games in the history held every four years. Demarcus Cousins held his own inside the paint scoring 13 points and grabbed a huge 15 rebounds against Serbia’s Miroslav Raduljica, Nikola Jokic, Milan Macvan, Vladimir Stimac and Nikola Kalinic who fouled out of the game in the early half.

Defense played a big factor in this US dream team win as Serbia’s gunner Milos Teodosic were limited to only 11 field goal attempts for  messy 9 total points far from his 22 points performance against Australia in the semis game, the same with Miroslav Raduljica. The final game were witnessed by a total of 10, 658 sports fans inside the Carioca Arena 1, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. And the US dream team once again shouted to the world who’s the best in the basketball planet that even Zika virus took a resounding backseat with a victory more meaningful for the USA where the game originated 125 years ago.

And the Star Spangled Banner were raised to its designated place on top of Serbia and Spain who finished Silver and Bronze medals respectively. Team to watch in 2020 Tokyo Olympics is Serbia, the youngest basketball team in the competition who made it to the olympics via a Qualifying Tournament and winning against China and Venezuela in the preliminaries and knocked out Lithuania and Australia, but that needs to be seen as the US Dream Team will surely field their best and protect its status as the best basketball team in the world.

Mastery requires patience, Victory requires respect. – Paquito

Exciting Rio 2016 Olympic Men’s Basketball Semis Games

Surprisingly Serbia basketball team becomes the team who has nothing to lose in the odds while setting its sights on silver medal finish and if they still packed with a lucky punch in the unpredictable finals game could be the happiest hoops team in this tournament. That is after, if they’ could’ve hurdle past Andrew Bogut’s Australian Boomers team who are eyeing a repeat date with the USA Dream team.

The NBA superstars are entering the semis with an average high at 105 points to an equally distant advantage of 16 against Australia, 18 vs Spain who are mixing it up with a deep historic background and both are expected to carry their very best for the last in order to play for the gold game, and a wide 21 point disparity if pitted against the rugged Serbia men’s team based on the stats sheet and its far from the actual actions on the court.

My prediction is this, if Andrew Bogut, Patty Mills and Matthew Dellavedova plays with a better tenacity and intensity against the Serbian they’re in for the finals game and vice versa as Serbia is also a stronger team from all position, meaning this matchup is also a championship like caliber game. On the other side, US dream team have regained their old self as seen how they’ve hold up Argentina even with Ginobili, Scola, Nocioni and Campazzo gave their best still the US played the most important ingredient of their game which is man to man defense and all is history such as leading by below 30 points credible advantage. I consider Spain as the darkhorse at this moment in time as the spaniards have timely regained their old form at the expense of Tony Parker and Boris Diaw France team.

We are about to witness the USA getting their 15th Gold , Australia at Silver and Spain for Bronze. Serbia has the consolation of getting this far and a force to reckon with come 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Tokyo Japan.

Gold, Silver and Bronze are all the same in terms of memorable records as the good and the better is as important with the best in determination of excellence in performances executed thru the beauty of a teamwork  perfection – Paquito

Winning by 33 or 3 is a Still Win ! Rio 2016 Olympic Games

The 2016 Rio Olympic Games is on its twelfth day of the nineteen day schedule for all sports lined up and we are witnessing the history of sports in its highest forms where world records are smashed and replaced by the outstanding performances of super athletes. And the pre-opening scare of dreaded zika virus a thing of the past, spectators are embracing several selected games where local heroes Rafaela Silva, Gold medal for Women’s 57Kg Judo; Felipe Almeida Wu, Silver for 10m air Pistol Men’s Shooting and Rafael Silva, Mayra Aguiar Bronze medals for Judo Men 100kg & Women 78 kg respectively for a total of 4 medals for the 2016 Olympic host Brazil.

While some of the super athletes are living the dream to its realistic performances, fans and spectators of this samba country are seeing the opposite in one of the most popular sports in the Olympics since the entry of professional basketball players spearheaded by NBA millionaires player in the person of Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving, Paul George, De Andre Jordan, DeMarcus Cousins, Kyle Lowry, DeMar Derozan, Draymond Green, Harrison Barnes and Jimmy Butler whom are criticises for choosing stay in a cruise ship instead of the olympic athletes village that to some are missing the true olympic spirit. Pau Gasol of Spain Basketball team is heading to a wild ride to make it to the medal race the same with France who will be playing the USA tomorrow at 1:15am .  People expectations drew a lot of dynamics in terms of how they’ve viewed the past 4 games of the USA Dream Team where twice they’re threatened with games against Australia and Serbia. The USA basketball team more than 30+ points winning average advantage entering the 2016 Rio games are now flexing extra muscle to notch those important wins in the eliminations to ensure they’re on track to get that 15th Gold medal and maintain the tradition of basketball excellence and ranking around the globe.

The very big difference of the 2016 Rio Olympic basketball story as compared to 1992 Barcelona Olympics is the influx of European players mixing it up with the best of the NBA as seen in the two exciting games. Andrew Bogut, Matthew Dellavedova, Patty Mills of Australia and Bogdan Bogdanovic, Miroslav Raduljica, Nikola Jokic, Nemanja Nedovic of Serbia have been rubbing elbows with NBA’s best in the past seasons. China and Venezuela are the only teams with no current NBA  active players in the rosters but has previous engagement with several NBA teams respectively. This alone has dabbles the scientific approaches of team plays where European,Asian , Oceania and African players are more attuned.

And with the basketball nearing its vital quarterfinals and semifinals game, we have nothing to expect but a more thrilling and exciting match-ups of the powerhouse now battling equally for the Silver medal and an exclusive chance to play the bunch of NBA stars as winning by 33 or 3 is still a win for the USA Dream Team.

Either by a mile or an inch a win is still a win – Paquito
