Why We Love Buzzer Beaters

As of this writing, the Cleveland Cavaliers have forced a winner take all game to be held in the Celtics home court at the Boston Garden after LeBron James epic 46 points performance witnessed by billions of NBA Basketball fans around the world.

Going back to the topic ….  LeBron James did it again! With 8 seconds in the regulation and the score tied at 103 – 103 he calmly sank what as basketball fans says is a Banco De Mayo… crossing the half court and right in front of the opponents bench who are all looking forward to another 5 minutes extra time to at least steal a game at the Quicken Loans Arena the Cavaliers Home court. So why we love to see buzzer beaters? Be it live or in the TV screens. And there’s another thing about buzzer beater, we love to watch it repeatedly! And the big question still lingers …. why?

Research says that it’s in everybody’s DNA.! The crave to witness electrifying performances and to perform it in front of millions of spectators is entirely the same when it comes to drive and enthusiasm to be in those situation.

To see it and to do it is entirely the same whoever you are! – Paquito

Paquito Quote for the Day 46

“Just Shut up and Dribble, “ these are the five word sentence that that made up a statement and reverberate throughout the basketball world of all races and generation who love the game.

Mixed reactions drew us to put up a brace front in how  we handle things and such criticism coming from a lady who have so much to learn and start appreciating the game that propelled notable products from energy drinks to household basic element with basketball superstars doing the other business in style which he obviously gained by being an icon in the field of sports.

And voila, a retired NBA player just won an Oscars that made even the platform even wider and bigger in jostling their opinion… that truly matters to everyone.

We cannot just claimed that we’ve been doing a certain style of criticism and getting without any reactions good or bad and we cannot guarantee how people would react of every generation to certain political issues especially if its laden with racism. A plague that have been hounding the society for the past decades ever since civilizations have come into play. Let our listening ears, our considerate heart assist our thinking and words to use if what we wanna have is to rebound from the bottom. And lastly, sports takes us beyond the lines…

Respect is all we need if we need to or we wanted to receive the same. – Paquito

FIBA WC 2023 – PHI-JAP-IND

“The Power of Three” and “Play It Louder Than Ever.”

The end of the year just painted the widest smile in every hoops fans in these three countries as  FIBA Central Board officially announced and formally endorsed it to the world. Excitement envelope our heart as we try to imagine things come 2023 ! that’s six full years and we collectively look at the line up of potential candidate to don the national colors from the ranks of junior to senior high varsity teams and the remaining strength of those young guns in the current team.

The announcement just fuel up the programs for basketball leagues, to find great talent, to train harder with a great length of time for preparation and gone is the reason of short training, jiving up, cohesion and whatever you may want to call it.

Were hoping that there’ll be no game of politics along the way but pure solid support for the team, the lack of long term program thinking must shelve and create a committee of professionals to attend to the rigors of preparation, programs, training’s, player selection, and others.

So who are your team for the coming 2023 FIBA World Cup ? Bear in mind that they should be able to withstand a long term commitment, sacrifices and dedication with one full goal and that is to win the coveted gold and eventually see our flag in the Olympics.

Name your team and lets start a very good conversation till the national team evolves into one of the most best formed team in the history of Philippines Basketball Team.

My first take is to have KAI SOTTO start training exclusively in the US under the trainer of Giannis Antetokounmpo ! – Paquito

Paquito Quote for the Day 43

Taking up something without any intention to let anyone knew it, is a big NO, especially if you are someone being looked upon as a role model of a law abiding citizen not only of your mother country but as to the whole world as well being recognized and affiliated with one of the favorite sports of the world.  The question lies between why and why  alone. Was it the urge of nature ? Was it flowing unto their genes ? Was it because their dumb reasoning can never be really considered as acceptable that they forgot to  process the cons of their act.

Respect the norms and the norms will respect you . – Paquito

Cheap-Prized Moves

Packing up your team with a load of stars is an act of fear in disguise of rebuilding. The trend in sports have become a culture of will to win the championship at the expense of bringing together superstars and wreck havoc to those whose values are still patterned for ages. To receive a salary way too low the market value is tantamount to acknowledging the mission not to compete fair and square but with overload of power and deceit.

But who’s to blame? The team owner or the players? They’re claiming to they wanted to be the marquee player, the floor director, the leader of the band or the alpha of the team but they chose to go with teams who’ve gone through the playoffs instead of signing with those bottom finishers.

Gone are the character of a total warrior, competitor or up to the challenge players who’ll stick it through pain and pride all year long. The game has become a circus instead of a competition. An event instead of a ball game.

It’s the same old story, beaten by a team assembled through faithful drafts and resorted to labeling it as a super team in order not to lose the “best team tag” from the other division. What else shall we hear next time?

People are tired of seeing orchestrated stories, fans wants to witness competition where skill and strategies are played on the court not in the paper. – Paquito

Paquito Quote for the Day 37

Controlling your Emotions!

My dear fellow bloggers and readers around the planet, as we arrive at age thirty-seven a lot of things should’ve been experience and learned from those experiences. Some are in the thick of success in their career, marriage strongly create a better bondage and a family of young and forward moving outlook in the midst of challenges you’ve been through. One of the best experience this age should’ve been is .., of controlling your emotions. Your ability to put an infuriated face behind that smile and the other way around. But that’s facial… without any word.

Perfecting your emotional check in all fronts is what people makes this world a pleasant place to live in. Some are not but many are into it. For once you let loose that will be the beginning of your distress.

Keep your emotions or feelings always on-check and let loose those good ones upfront. – Paquito

Ring or Bust for KD

May 30, 2017 – Manila, Philippines

The defending champion are the underdog believe it or not and it’s not because they’re a low-caliber team but because of the strategy they’ve made going into the championship series for the third time versus its old nemesis. A lot of questions linger in the air as it is not the real story but one thing is for sure to happen, a marquee player who’ve decided to change team is now in the big dance that is no other than Kevin Durant. Some said it caused a lot of imbalance to most of the team around them even if he decided to go to the other fence which is the East, but that’s history now and let’s look forward to those “imbalance” they’re taking about that even your blogger is quite unsure if there really is an efffect to its opponent especially if the guy leading that team is “The King” Lebron James.

I’m a bit excited seeing this two team clash in Game 1 till 5, which is after they’ve used the homecourt advantage and going by the distance which am sure is one of the catalyst to win the Larry O’Brien trophy. How will Tristan Thompson defend Javale McGee is just one of the proverbial story we should be looking for. What defense and offense will the Golden State Warriors gonna use to hold Kyrie Irving on-check to destabilize the strong run and gun play of the Cavaliers? Will KD go head to head with Lebron James and vice versa? Can JR Smith still plays big with a taller GSW defense?

As Lebron James asked for a backup guard that was answered by the addition of veteran Deron Williams, it will be difficult for him to stay on the course with younger guys of the Warriors ? The preparation of both teams made from the off season will not be that significant with the Cavaliers side unlike with the Warriors they got an MVP rated player who has one mission which is to win a championship. And KD is somehow on the right time and the right place as the trek to the peak is done and the only thing that is now difficult to achieve is to remain on that peak but not after facing the fiery scorching and thunder of Lebron James and company’s armored fortress.

Will KD get the first ring he was chasing with the Splash brothers and McGee after the series ? Or Lebron James will continue to cement his greatness in the NBA? Your comments please ….

The ball bounce whenever it touch the floor, players palm, board and rim… that’s a lot of odd for a single basket. The same odd to win a Championship with a great opponent. – Paquito

Paquito Quote for the Day 36

With the way a man announces his excitement be it in fear or advantage, never do it in public for it might dictate two things in everyone’s eye… humility or arrogance. As the ongoing Eastern Conference Finals in the NBA 2017 Playoffs are halfway showing the separation of pretenders against contenders we cannot deny but accept the fact that some are gifted in many ways apart from their genetic valuable DNA but of skills each player did for himself to prove what he is capable of in bringing up the competition level game after game.

Sports Cheating – Does it Really Exists?

A lot of controversy have circulated the mainstream news, some were even headlined. Let us get straight to it, was it intentional or not? According to some sports science professional… any player including you who is reading this blog right now has the tendency to commit one in any sports occasion be it in the amateur or majors. And why? It is due to the unconventional stress and strain that the warrior thinking you have is running in your brain system at a rate of double or triple the normal way you think if you are not sweating. The tendency to locked-in with the very thought you have during fierce competition plays vital role to the players decision making along the way, which is the very main reason some sportsman are considered best as they possess multitude of excellence in making the best choice while under extreme pressure.

As for the organizers, rules of engagement must be made clear once and for all and should observe proper and professional ways in releasing any delicate statement that may tarnish or put the sportsmen and women in bad light. And maintain the credible dignity and noble existence of the all sports event, be it big or not.

How a Sacrifice won a Championship

The Philippine Basketball Association’s Philippine Cup was won by the powerhouse San Miguel Beermen with 4-1 of the best of seven series. What was significant for this series are three things. The perpetual trophy, the runner up’s huge following with their never say die spirit and the back to back finals MVP, SMB point guard Chris Ross.

After receiving his MVP award from Cignal HD representatives, he was asked for some words for the PBA fans especially those rooting for San Miguel Beermen. He goes on to say that it was through great sacrifices of each fifteen members of the team that made it possible…to achieved two things… one in winning the championship trophy and next is why he won the MVP in a back to back fashion. And that everybody made the needed adjustment for him to be in a position to contribute more in scoring, share the ball more often and run the floor in a seamless offensive manner that made the team’s dynamism as a force to reckon with  and maximize their unique potentials both inside the paint and beyond the arc positions in beating the crowd favorite Ginebra San Miguel.
