Cheap-Prized Moves

Packing up your team with a load of stars is an act of fear in disguise of rebuilding. The trend in sports have become a culture of will to win the championship at the expense of bringing together superstars and wreck havoc to those whose values are still patterned for ages. To receive a salary way too low the market value is tantamount to acknowledging the mission not to compete fair and square but with overload of power and deceit.

But who’s to blame? The team owner or the players? They’re claiming to they wanted to be the marquee player, the floor director, the leader of the band or the alpha of the team but they chose to go with teams who’ve gone through the playoffs instead of signing with those bottom finishers.

Gone are the character of a total warrior, competitor or up to the challenge players who’ll stick it through pain and pride all year long. The game has become a circus instead of a competition. An event instead of a ball game.

It’s the same old story, beaten by a team assembled through faithful drafts and resorted to labeling it as a super team in order not to lose the “best team tag” from the other division. What else shall we hear next time?

People are tired of seeing orchestrated stories, fans wants to witness competition where skill and strategies are played on the court not in the paper. – Paquito

Paquito Quote for the Day 37

Controlling your Emotions!

My dear fellow bloggers and readers around the planet, as we arrive at age thirty-seven a lot of things should’ve been experience and learned from those experiences. Some are in the thick of success in their career, marriage strongly create a better bondage and a family of young and forward moving outlook in the midst of challenges you’ve been through. One of the best experience this age should’ve been is .., of controlling your emotions. Your ability to put an infuriated face behind that smile and the other way around. But that’s facial… without any word.

Perfecting your emotional check in all fronts is what people makes this world a pleasant place to live in. Some are not but many are into it. For once you let loose that will be the beginning of your distress.

Keep your emotions or feelings always on-check and let loose those good ones upfront. – Paquito

Ring or Bust for KD

May 30, 2017 – Manila, Philippines

The defending champion are the underdog believe it or not and it’s not because they’re a low-caliber team but because of the strategy they’ve made going into the championship series for the third time versus its old nemesis. A lot of questions linger in the air as it is not the real story but one thing is for sure to happen, a marquee player who’ve decided to change team is now in the big dance that is no other than Kevin Durant. Some said it caused a lot of imbalance to most of the team around them even if he decided to go to the other fence which is the East, but that’s history now and let’s look forward to those “imbalance” they’re taking about that even your blogger is quite unsure if there really is an efffect to its opponent especially if the guy leading that team is “The King” Lebron James.

I’m a bit excited seeing this two team clash in Game 1 till 5, which is after they’ve used the homecourt advantage and going by the distance which am sure is one of the catalyst to win the Larry O’Brien trophy. How will Tristan Thompson defend Javale McGee is just one of the proverbial story we should be looking for. What defense and offense will the Golden State Warriors gonna use to hold Kyrie Irving on-check to destabilize the strong run and gun play of the Cavaliers? Will KD go head to head with Lebron James and vice versa? Can JR Smith still plays big with a taller GSW defense?

As Lebron James asked for a backup guard that was answered by the addition of veteran Deron Williams, it will be difficult for him to stay on the course with younger guys of the Warriors ? The preparation of both teams made from the off season will not be that significant with the Cavaliers side unlike with the Warriors they got an MVP rated player who has one mission which is to win a championship. And KD is somehow on the right time and the right place as the trek to the peak is done and the only thing that is now difficult to achieve is to remain on that peak but not after facing the fiery scorching and thunder of Lebron James and company’s armored fortress.

Will KD get the first ring he was chasing with the Splash brothers and McGee after the series ? Or Lebron James will continue to cement his greatness in the NBA? Your comments please ….

The ball bounce whenever it touch the floor, players palm, board and rim… that’s a lot of odd for a single basket. The same odd to win a Championship with a great opponent. – Paquito

Paquito Quote for the Day 36

With the way a man announces his excitement be it in fear or advantage, never do it in public for it might dictate two things in everyone’s eye… humility or arrogance. As the ongoing Eastern Conference Finals in the NBA 2017 Playoffs are halfway showing the separation of pretenders against contenders we cannot deny but accept the fact that some are gifted in many ways apart from their genetic valuable DNA but of skills each player did for himself to prove what he is capable of in bringing up the competition level game after game.

Sports Cheating – Does it Really Exists?

A lot of controversy have circulated the mainstream news, some were even headlined. Let us get straight to it, was it intentional or not? According to some sports science professional… any player including you who is reading this blog right now has the tendency to commit one in any sports occasion be it in the amateur or majors. And why? It is due to the unconventional stress and strain that the warrior thinking you have is running in your brain system at a rate of double or triple the normal way you think if you are not sweating. The tendency to locked-in with the very thought you have during fierce competition plays vital role to the players decision making along the way, which is the very main reason some sportsman are considered best as they possess multitude of excellence in making the best choice while under extreme pressure.

As for the organizers, rules of engagement must be made clear once and for all and should observe proper and professional ways in releasing any delicate statement that may tarnish or put the sportsmen and women in bad light. And maintain the credible dignity and noble existence of the all sports event, be it big or not.

How a Sacrifice won a Championship

The Philippine Basketball Association’s Philippine Cup was won by the powerhouse San Miguel Beermen with 4-1 of the best of seven series. What was significant for this series are three things. The perpetual trophy, the runner up’s huge following with their never say die spirit and the back to back finals MVP, SMB point guard Chris Ross.

After receiving his MVP award from Cignal HD representatives, he was asked for some words for the PBA fans especially those rooting for San Miguel Beermen. He goes on to say that it was through great sacrifices of each fifteen members of the team that made it possible…to achieved two things… one in winning the championship trophy and next is why he won the MVP in a back to back fashion. And that everybody made the needed adjustment for him to be in a position to contribute more in scoring, share the ball more often and run the floor in a seamless offensive manner that made the team’s dynamism as a force to reckon with  and maximize their unique potentials both inside the paint and beyond the arc positions in beating the crowd favorite Ginebra San Miguel.

A team built around sacrifices has a greater chance of winning a championship.  – Paquito

Paquito Answer for the Day 17

Long standing records are bound to be broken in due time. The departure of Kevin Durant from Oklahoma Thunders created a wide room for his partner Russell Westbrook , big time. As Kevin Durant is still finding his rhythm with the Dub Nation it was totally different from where he left, Russell Westbrook is currently busy filling up the vacuum in his own creative and skilled way he could that he is now piling up  points after points in triple double mode. A feat only a superstar could deliver every night in any arena… like Michael Jordan.

A true leader is a person who is always on the look out for a better if not the best option in a certain way that will make the doubters doubt their opinion upon seeing the results done in most passionate and dedicated manner. Russell Westbrook, Why not…

Doubters are the ones we should doubt for they haven’t seen the best we can be. – Paquito

That Golden State Warriors vs Oklahoma City Thunder Game

As an NBA fan from the Southeast Asia, I always keep tab on the updates of the games especially when superstars are on the floor. The game between Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder are somewhat far from the expectation we have after Kevin Durant decided to join the Splash Brothers with numerous reason he alone knew of. Speculative media wrote of several stories as if they’re Kevin Durant.

With the way the game transpired in 40 minutes span, one thing is pretty obvious… Russel Westbrook and his team mates are nowhere between the line of happy and sad or whatever you may call it. We thought that NBA is the highest form of competition in basketball, where the champs are branded as the World Champion… to which I disagree as it is more appropriate to call them USA Champs as no other country are competing in this league, its’ all Americas state’s involved and together with a few European, Asian or other race joining the bandwagon of individual seeking success in the kingdom of basketball giants.

True to its word and meaning that “change is the only permanent thing in this world” that’ caught Kevin Durant’s heart to switched team, a lot of memes and other mocking games were directed to him that even his former ally Russel Westbrook took part as seen in several video clips… including Stephen Curry. If these are part of the marketing awareness strategies, i think this wont make the parents of the million kids and grown up fans proud, once copied and absorbed as a normal part of the deal of being one of the best point guard of the game. We believe that an NBA player is a gentleman in all facets of his stature.

Focus must be limited to the competition, letting the ball dribbled and led to the basket telling the fans who’s better and the best after every game. Skills and basketball IQ should be shown instead of antics and verbal disturbia,  where when men’s ego, once awaken sometimes equates to devastating result…. just as the way the Golden State Warriors demolished the Oklahoma City Thunder in their last game.

Play your best, fair and square on the floor not in front of the camera reels. – Paquito

The 5 Lesson’s We Learned from the “never say die” Spirit of Barangay Ginebra’s Buzzer Beater Winning Moment

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel captured the PBA Governors Cup  in a thrilling buzzer beater with a perfect picture any player always dream of, which is a rare ending in a pro league. With the score tied at 88 all, under a 5.5 seconds into the final regulation in front of a jam packed Smart Araneta Coliseum crowd of 22,528, GSM import Justine Brownlee took the inbound pass from Sol Mercado and calmly sank a shot behind the arc just an inch from the stretched arms of Meralco Bolts’ import Allen Durham-the best import awardee and with the time running out, it was all faith over matter that the ball hit nothing but net that again saw and heard the loudest roar of the crowd since the Thrilla in Manila and Gabriel “Flash” Elorde’s  knocked out win over Harold Gomes as it  took more than eight years for the team and its die hard fans to win a championship. The Fans are the never say die followers ever since it was brought about by the Big J Sonny Jaworski.

People always look for a brotherhood that have the same or synonymous reasons, it was in the game the Filipino people dearly loved which is basketball. Behind every game a thousand of stories can be heard, behind every player and a team a thousand of following can be seen. But there is this something extra ordinary about them being a “never say die” fan who thrives not only for the game but for their daily life challenges. There is this charisma that truly unites the fans whatever his/her status in life he/she have. That charisma is what makes the Filipino basketball fans different form any sports fan in the country even the world. Let me share to you the lesson’s I’ve seen during the series not only through observation but in all forms of media that best describes the Ginebra NSD spirit.

  1. They come in full force, even if the actual seat location is as far as General Admission they throw their support without any reluctance.
  2. They chant in unison, roaring like a fearless lion in the jungle with just the same tune, noise and never say die conviction.
  3. They share the feelings, if the team lose they’re really showing their true emotions anywhere, inside the bus going home after the game, trains and some walk their way home just to show their unique support all the way.
  4. They really makes their presence felt inside the venue, acting like the sixth man on the floor creating motivation for the entire team to play their best even if they’re down by a dozen. That created the x-factor of the championship series and all will agree to it, ask them.
  5. Die hard fans are a mix of the old and the young ones, aficionado’s  as old as nearly centenarians are still rooting it all for Ginebra, they still have that fire of adoration and support to the Big J, who himself had made the life possible for those aspiring to be the best that they can be. Simply by saying, It ain’t over till it’s over even if the shot clock is less a second in the final buzzer. That’s the spirit he have had shared a thousand times to the fans whatever their life status maybe.

My take on this is very simple, never give up if there is still an ounce of time remaining in the situation you are right now. Remember as what The Big J has said before that it ain’t over till its over and the spirit must always be the never say die attitude to make an insurmountable challenges become possible and doable just like the way Justine Brownlee sank the trey with only one thing in mind, the will to win.

Always put yourself into the winning line instead of a losing curve. – Paquito

Blockbuster James Yap / Paul Lee Trade !

The Filipino basketball fans are now in for another surprised deal  between Rain or  Shine and the Star Hotshots, trading or having swapped marquee players with both claimed as this is beneficial to their respective teams. Many are wondering and giving their unsolicited opinion including this blogger in the spirit of the freedom of the expression notion and to keep the happening on reality check if there is a winner or loser with the latest trade. But i tell you this my dear fellow blogger and basketball fan, It is us, the PBA fans who are the real winner in this deal.

With the latest development, we are about to witness the athleticism and never before seen skills of these basketball stars as they’re about to show to their new team their basketball intelligence quotient while fitting in with the respective system to bring it into another round with the medal games. Rejuvenation is the word am gonna used for this spectacular trade that most of the newspaper have written as a sort of a fiction since it really never came into their mind that this will gonna happen, and it did. As a fan we should never forget that trading players is one of the exciting part of the team, player and basketball patrons to watch out for as it is a decision being made beneficial for the organizations growth and future hold in the commercial dimension. Marketing and its marketers must agitate the intelligent minds of its patron.

Seeing James Yap and Jeff Chan burning hoop nets from all angles of the court is great and fun to watch thus transforming the Rain or Shine team a gunner team while for the Star Hotshots is it does gonna make them a Guard-Trifecta with Mark Barroca, Peter Jun Simon and Paul Lee trading no look passes and leaving a man open in the middle for an easy floater. These made the teams more dangerous and a solid competitor in the coming opening of the next PBA season starting 2017.

I still believe that basketball is a team effort game not only inside the hard-court but also in the back office. Team managers spend a lot of cross matching and shadow combination analysis to perpetuate the right mixture of basketball excellence and with the latest swapped there is no denying that all is happening for a purpose that’ll put all the people involve into a better situation and condition and the most important of all, the basketball fans . Kudos to James Yap and Paul Lee and also to their new teams.

Trading is an old proven way of business to get the best of the deal parallel to each pressing needs. – Paquito
