The 5 Lesson’s We Learned from the “never say die” Spirit of Barangay Ginebra’s Buzzer Beater Winning Moment

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel captured the PBA Governors Cup  in a thrilling buzzer beater with a perfect picture any player always dream of, which is a rare ending in a pro league. With the score tied at 88 all, under a 5.5 seconds into the final regulation in front of a jam packed Smart Araneta Coliseum crowd of 22,528, GSM import Justine Brownlee took the inbound pass from Sol Mercado and calmly sank a shot behind the arc just an inch from the stretched arms of Meralco Bolts’ import Allen Durham-the best import awardee and with the time running out, it was all faith over matter that the ball hit nothing but net that again saw and heard the loudest roar of the crowd since the Thrilla in Manila and Gabriel “Flash” Elorde’s  knocked out win over Harold Gomes as it  took more than eight years for the team and its die hard fans to win a championship. The Fans are the never say die followers ever since it was brought about by the Big J Sonny Jaworski.

People always look for a brotherhood that have the same or synonymous reasons, it was in the game the Filipino people dearly loved which is basketball. Behind every game a thousand of stories can be heard, behind every player and a team a thousand of following can be seen. But there is this something extra ordinary about them being a “never say die” fan who thrives not only for the game but for their daily life challenges. There is this charisma that truly unites the fans whatever his/her status in life he/she have. That charisma is what makes the Filipino basketball fans different form any sports fan in the country even the world. Let me share to you the lesson’s I’ve seen during the series not only through observation but in all forms of media that best describes the Ginebra NSD spirit.

  1. They come in full force, even if the actual seat location is as far as General Admission they throw their support without any reluctance.
  2. They chant in unison, roaring like a fearless lion in the jungle with just the same tune, noise and never say die conviction.
  3. They share the feelings, if the team lose they’re really showing their true emotions anywhere, inside the bus going home after the game, trains and some walk their way home just to show their unique support all the way.
  4. They really makes their presence felt inside the venue, acting like the sixth man on the floor creating motivation for the entire team to play their best even if they’re down by a dozen. That created the x-factor of the championship series and all will agree to it, ask them.
  5. Die hard fans are a mix of the old and the young ones, aficionado’s  as old as nearly centenarians are still rooting it all for Ginebra, they still have that fire of adoration and support to the Big J, who himself had made the life possible for those aspiring to be the best that they can be. Simply by saying, It ain’t over till it’s over even if the shot clock is less a second in the final buzzer. That’s the spirit he have had shared a thousand times to the fans whatever their life status maybe.

My take on this is very simple, never give up if there is still an ounce of time remaining in the situation you are right now. Remember as what The Big J has said before that it ain’t over till its over and the spirit must always be the never say die attitude to make an insurmountable challenges become possible and doable just like the way Justine Brownlee sank the trey with only one thing in mind, the will to win.

Always put yourself into the winning line instead of a losing curve. – Paquito

Blockbuster James Yap / Paul Lee Trade !

The Filipino basketball fans are now in for another surprised deal  between Rain or  Shine and the Star Hotshots, trading or having swapped marquee players with both claimed as this is beneficial to their respective teams. Many are wondering and giving their unsolicited opinion including this blogger in the spirit of the freedom of the expression notion and to keep the happening on reality check if there is a winner or loser with the latest trade. But i tell you this my dear fellow blogger and basketball fan, It is us, the PBA fans who are the real winner in this deal.

With the latest development, we are about to witness the athleticism and never before seen skills of these basketball stars as they’re about to show to their new team their basketball intelligence quotient while fitting in with the respective system to bring it into another round with the medal games. Rejuvenation is the word am gonna used for this spectacular trade that most of the newspaper have written as a sort of a fiction since it really never came into their mind that this will gonna happen, and it did. As a fan we should never forget that trading players is one of the exciting part of the team, player and basketball patrons to watch out for as it is a decision being made beneficial for the organizations growth and future hold in the commercial dimension. Marketing and its marketers must agitate the intelligent minds of its patron.

Seeing James Yap and Jeff Chan burning hoop nets from all angles of the court is great and fun to watch thus transforming the Rain or Shine team a gunner team while for the Star Hotshots is it does gonna make them a Guard-Trifecta with Mark Barroca, Peter Jun Simon and Paul Lee trading no look passes and leaving a man open in the middle for an easy floater. These made the teams more dangerous and a solid competitor in the coming opening of the next PBA season starting 2017.

I still believe that basketball is a team effort game not only inside the hard-court but also in the back office. Team managers spend a lot of cross matching and shadow combination analysis to perpetuate the right mixture of basketball excellence and with the latest swapped there is no denying that all is happening for a purpose that’ll put all the people involve into a better situation and condition and the most important of all, the basketball fans . Kudos to James Yap and Paul Lee and also to their new teams.

Trading is an old proven way of business to get the best of the deal parallel to each pressing needs. – Paquito

Paquito Quote for the Day 04

Always be serious with anything you’ve heard or listening to, but beware of in between words you choose. This is absolutely right my dear sredaer (read backwards). We tend to assume or presume things the way it is whereas we shouldn’t. The chance to be in the middle of things without any choice where to proceed to regain our credibility has been prevalent in our daily lives. Have we learned from it? Do we learn from it? Here we should!

To get rid of being quoted for something or issues you are facing, try to exercise the art of keeping your mouth shut until you see the red flag to speak your minds in a positive way, with the goal to help not to put or add salt into an injury. Generally speaking with a positive thought of helping out the person to regain his or her credibility nothing more nothing less.

Salty words creates excitement for gossipers but sometime incite bitterness if added more than needed. Stay away from these conversation or immersed yourself and fix things out with the right amount of salt.  – Paquito

Rio Olympics 2016 – Chronology of Events/Games

3. Opening Ceremonies , After Egypt, The Republic of the PHILIPPINES ! then France….

2. The South Koreans Men and Women Archery team became the first winners of the Olympic Games in Rio 2016 even the official opening hasn’t been started!

1. With a week to go , the focal point of every country from the seven continents of the world will be in Rio De Janeiro Brazil in south america. The city of samba, home of football crazy people, the famous copacabana beach and the arms spreading statue of Jesus Christ the Redeemer. Doping scandal hounding the Russian Olympic Team, Zika conscious athletes decided to stay home and might watch the games live telecast at their living rooms. Rio Olympic local organizers are bombarded by set of criticism regarding the athletes village for the whole duration of the games that according to several people are “not yet ready” or maybe several small details are needing immediate attention.

Join me in the next couple of days as we cover from a spectators point of view the happenings and record breaking performances of the best participating athletes from around the globe as they compete in Rio Olympics 2016. Paquito

The 2016 version USA Dream Team

As I was watching the on-going USA Basketball showcase being held across the US there is one thing I’ve interestingly notice, that teams from the around the globe have evolved positively at least for their home team benefits in terms of height and heft. Still, in the US where the competition is getting notches higher every 4 years and in time for the Olympic Games. A lot of debate can be found in any part of the globe as to who is the most talented, strongest team ever assembled by the US and there are of course discussion of great importance seemed they’re missing. Patriotism in the heart of the twelve professional NBA players donning the flag jersey and dedication in their heart to fulfill the obligation of a good US citizen for his country. The biggest challenge the 2016 USA Dream team has to face is the the fatal threat of the dreaded ZIKA Virus.

I consider them as the toughest when it comes to their courage to not let the USA be a a laughing stock should they end up not in any podium finish for the basketball medal game. Powerhouse lurking around are set to send in their best to at least wound up a Silver finish.

With the high probability of acquiring or getting bites of an insect numbering more than the projected sports participants attendees, this is a serious case they’re facing with rather than the opponents at helm. The teams are now warming up prior to travel to Rio, Brazil though there were news circulating that the Australian Olympic team has deferred its move inside the Olympic village after the Australian officials condemned it as “not safe or ready” where problems include issue surrounding sanitation and utility failure after running a “stress test” whereby a simultaneous run of faucets failed and electrical short circuits were recorded this made them to stay in their hotel for the meantime.

It’s not the competition that is threatening great athletes of professional level but the environmental and health issues which is a small but a high impact one and merits the reasons behind of those who decided to forego this chance to compete in the Olympic. I salute the 2016 USA Basketball Team including its coaching staffs and whole organization for the decision to preserve the Olympic spirit through firm participation and commitment of its NBA professional basketball players.

Your thoughts are highly valued. Thank you.

When Losing is Winning

The Road to Rio Olympics game is bound to be bumpy and as hard as first time you learn to do things on your own. Basketball loving country in Asia the Philippines are making its bid to be ranked among the creme of the crops, if not the best but at least be recognized as one of them and shout to the whole world the talent, passion and abilities to play the game. 18 teams from different countries are vying for the remaining 3 slots for that global games which is held once in every four years. The prestige and honor at stake will not only shake the current rankings but get the notion of the hundred scouts watching the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Manila that just started with our very own http://Gilas Pilipinas Team that they say is the most powerful team ever assembled headed by the http://Asia’s Finest point guard Jayson Castro William and naturalized player http://NBA Andray Blatche supported by sharp shooter Jeff Chan, the young and talented bunch of Terrence Romeo, Troy Rosario and http://NBA-D League Ray-Ray Parks Jr. , Ryan Reyes, Japeth Aguilar, Gabe Norwood, Marc Pingris, Ranidel De Ocampo and the current http://PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo completing the cast of the Gilas 4.0 version of 2016. Winning the qualifier is the only mission our team has right now with no reservation or excuses to the very supportive fans and sponsors. Smart and SM team up in hosting the prestigious event to the more deserving Filipino Basketball fans who are still captured by the intense drama that unfolds during the World Cup held in Spain.

All the teams are on a mission and that becomes a very difficult task ahead for the 28 ranked Gilas Pilipinas. And we just recently played the best effort as a team in front of a sell-out crowd and around the globe dropping a game by 9 from the powerhouse 5th ranked Les Bleus of France, led by 4 time NBA Champion Tony Parker and Boris Diaw. EuroBasket MVP Nando De Colo and several active NBA players with the final score of 93-84. The remarkable display of results of rigid practice and team cohesion is very evident and is acceptable in any angle even we lose the game. Its a stepping stone toward a greater goal of gauging ourselves with the best of the world’s basketball national team. We have shown the entire world the brand and style of our game were at par and something to respect about. The chance to finally open the doors of opportunities of having a full-blooded Filipino playing in any of the NBA team in the near future. The Mall of Asia Arena will be the center stage of quality plays and highlights and also the venue of finding or discovering new talent that’ll fit to the roles available in any prime league aside from the NBA.

It is winning the eyes of the scout, the adoration of thousand fans and the reinstatement of respect to our local brand of basketball is what truly count most. It is indeed how you played the game that matter whether you win or lose. Paquito

Your idea and prediction to the on-going http://Olympic Qualifying Tournament Manila might be larger than the nine point losing margin, please send one and i do really appreciate to answer it. Thank you for reading my blog.

The lesson we can learn from that Strength in Numb3rs of the GSW

The Golden State Warriors are poised to clinch their second consecutive National Basketball Association Championship in tomorrow’s game 5 of the titular series versus the Cleveland Cavaliers in Oracle Arena Oakland California.

They live and die with their dictum Strength in Numbers with their high flying act of unbelievable scoring runs. Fresh from breaking the old record for regular season of Win-Loss record by an outstanding 73-9 and continuous rewriting historic feat with the most recent as the most numbers of 3-point made in a playoff series at 17 triples led by the dynamic duo of back to back Most Valuable Player GSW shooting Guard Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson both are sons of former NBA legitimate players and better known as the Splash Brothers for a remarkable high shooting  percentage that’s been the bread and butter of the team. While most of the game analyst have prematurely written them out during the semifinals as the Eastern Conference finals ended early via sweep and lopsided matchup. The King himself Le Bron James who like a true missionary has promised the city of the first elusive NBA crown and convincingly done it up until the Games 1 & 2 losses on the road.

With the Cleveland Cavaliers ALL-IN battle cry of the season it seems they’re all in for the biggest surprise of the series and that is bound to happen soonest as no team have ever made to comeback and steal a crown down at 1-3 with only a game slated to be played at their home court that makes it a gargantuan task their facing. Back to the basics of sports where numbers matters there the strength anchors.

Golden State Warriors teams focus is to pile up scores in every department from steals, shot blocks, rebounds, assist, score and the sixth player much needed at home which are the 20+ thousand fans who are truly supportive of their team through thick and thin. Steve Kerr headcoach of the team have design a machine of plays devoted to lighting up the boards even during occasional losses. His noble idea of staying in then game whoever and whatever situation they’re in that set up the ante of their confidence level to contribute and ensure that a mere players presence on the court could make an impact of substantial value to keep the game going and winning.

The numbers as the focal point of motivation have brought them to what and where they are right, a game away to win a second crown. Realistically speaking strength in numbers are also adaptable to anyone’s life in whatever capacity they are right now. Putting those positive numbers on a daily basis somehow ensure ones productivity and inspires us to ask for more and much more until we’re comfortably satisfied with the numbers we put in.

As early as now, I am congratulating the Golden State Warriors, the Splash Brothers, the modern Rodman Draymond Green, the Brazillian brothers and the rest of the team and staffs and it’s whole organization for putting up the numbers at its strongest and unbelievable stature to inspire the youths and the NBA fans that basketball championship can be handily won as a team and within the bounds of humble dream and discipline.

Good job Golden State Warriors the 2016 NBA Champions from the Philippines! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
