Why We Love Buzzer Beaters

As of this writing, the Cleveland Cavaliers have forced a winner take all game to be held in the Celtics home court at the Boston Garden after LeBron James epic 46 points performance witnessed by billions of NBA Basketball fans around the world.

Going back to the topic ….  LeBron James did it again! With 8 seconds in the regulation and the score tied at 103 – 103 he calmly sank what as basketball fans says is a Banco De Mayo… crossing the half court and right in front of the opponents bench who are all looking forward to another 5 minutes extra time to at least steal a game at the Quicken Loans Arena the Cavaliers Home court. So why we love to see buzzer beaters? Be it live or in the TV screens. And there’s another thing about buzzer beater, we love to watch it repeatedly! And the big question still lingers …. why?

Research says that it’s in everybody’s DNA.! The crave to witness electrifying performances and to perform it in front of millions of spectators is entirely the same when it comes to drive and enthusiasm to be in those situation.

Will Lebron and the Cavaliers be Able to Equalize? Here are my Suggestions!

The defending Champs are seemed to be digging almost the same hole in the current NBA Finals  where the Golden State Warriors are leading them at 2 to nothing in the best of seven series heading to the Cleveland Cavaliers home court where many observers say that role players plays their best,… for games 3 and 4 before going back to the Oracle Arena at the Bay Area for Game 5.

The King was never been a disappointment for the last two game loses judging from his latest triple double performance and a better middle game tenacity where the lead was just down to 3,  67 – 64 for the Warriors , but outplayed in that second quarter 30 – 27  in favor of Cavs. They were unable to sustain that momentum and caught flatfooted with the Warriors blazing guns as they unloaded a flurry of treys and open shots off some transition that was too much for them to matched as Lebron James tirelessly fought back without any help from his teammates.

Unless the supporting crews produce substantial numbers in the stat-sheets thats the only time we can say that the Championship series is not over yet. The likes of Kevin Love, Kyle Kolver , JR Smith and Kyrie Irving must step up in terms of offense and Iman Shumpert, Richard Jefferson, Tristan Thompson and Deron Williams should make their turns in defending and sacrificing their bodies to force turnovers which is the missing factor in the past two games. How will Coach Tyrone Lue make adjustments will be seen in the next two games and that is how will they CONSISTENTLY COVER AT THE SAME TIME the threat of outside offense of the Warriors, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

We wanted to see a close game, a dog-fight… an intense one where the results are being decided in the remaining fraction of a seconds. Will the Cavaliers response with the more challenging and opposing team lead by the trifecta of KD, SC and KT? Will the Cleveland come out with a consistent offense for the first 12 minutes, second 24, third 36 and fourth full quarters 48 minutes of the game and still have an ounce of air for an Overtime if necessary?

That’s one of the key factor here, the Warriors key players have the luxury to grasp for air when needed as the bench players were similarly putting up numbers and help defense whenever the Cavaliers make their run. Does the proper and timely use of time outs spell the same factor, to some experts… YES. The Warriors simply push the red button if needed and that truly made the difference in sustaining the momentum they’ve built and like a piece of lollipop they don’t wanna lose the lead even for a single point, but the dreaded fact is they’re always leading in double figures.

One game at a time here’s what the Cavaliers need to check;

  • Get back Kyrie Irving to play position 1 for Lebron to play SOLID 2.
  • The Kick and Roll thing they’ve done against their previous playoffs opponents must be put into action, where Kevin Love and Kyle Korver becomes open and hit their specialties .
  • Look-out for those in-bound plays and avoid that ugly double screens, thats too amateur and make the complicated play overly complicated.
  • Put somebody to Defend Kevin Durant, so as not to get Lebron James easily tired and out of gas going into the last two quarters of the game where the chips are high.
  • Reactivate JR Smith to his old role, he”s been the weakest link so far. Let him hold the ball during offense to create openings and mismatches for LBJ and KL.
  • Put either of the Jones ( James and Dahntay) to defend alternately the trifecta of the Warriors.
  • Engage the Warriors with a more solid physical game. Man for man.
  • Give Lebron and Kyrie at least 2 minutes rest or 30 seconds per quarter when necessary.
  • Dont let the Warriors lead by double figures going to the last quarter, stay close or at least always on the gas if possible.
  • Match the intensity and speed of the Warriors from both ends of the court, there should be no dull seconds, this is a Championship series.

consistency is the key and play with the same intensity for the four full quarters to win the game.

Hey, you’re the Defending Champs here SO PLAY LIKE ONE, thats the reason why the Golden Sate Warriors are leading the series because they’re defensively ready to take or to challenge every attempt the Cavaliers made from the parking lot to the inside paint area without thinking of being fouled out and unable to finish the game. That’s a character that really spells the difference … for now.
